Stage West Calgary - Legends of Country Review

Legends of Country Review

By Lois Jones

The title really says it all when we are talking Legends of Country Music.  Currently showing at Stage West until September 1st, you will not be disappointed if you like the sounds of artists such as Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Dwight Yoakam, Trisha Yearwood, and Garth Brookes.

The crowd surely enjoyed the nostalgic sounds from as far back as 1920. They were clapping along, tapping their toes and you could hear them sharing their own stories of these famous American Southern Artists.  Each actor or actress giving a lead into the next act.

The stage presence and energy was infectious.   The sweet sounds of the Steele Guitar, Country Fiddle and the southern twang in the vocals, left me remembering my visit to the Grand Ole Opry.  We enjoyed some history, incredible vocal talents and a great stage show with the Cast at Stage West Calgary.

Fresh off the success of Legends of Rock ‘n’ Roll and due to popular demand, Stage West presents Legends of Country! The quintessentially rural sound of the American south has roots reaching back as far as the 1920s, having been officially recognized by the US Congress as being “born” in Bristol, Tennessee. This expedition through the music of the working class runs through the ‘60s all the way to the 2000s, taking stops along the way with the classic Buck Owens, the soulful Kenny Rogers, the sultry Dolly Parton, the eclectic Dwight Yoakam, the innovative Trisha Yearwood, and the electrifying Garth Brooks. Pack up the steel guitar, the country fiddle, and the vocal twang as we take a ride with the Legends of Country.
