The Vagina Monologues
Review submitted by Kim Cheel
The words of the vagina monologue haven't really changed in the 20 years since they've been doing the monologues yet with every new cast, with every new director, there's so much more personal truth attached to the words that you see a different show even if you've seen it 4 times as in my case or 20 times.
Friday's performance of The Vagina Monologues was so powerful and true, it felt like I was watching it for the first time. There was a lovely group of women that were baring their souls; some of them by sharing the words of the women who had been interviewed for the monologues, and some of them by their true experiences which were heart-wrenching, but also empowering as they took back their lives. The overarching theme to it all is that we have a place and we need space to come together to commiserate, to overcome. We don't all have heartbreaking stories but we all know someone who does and we need to give those people space and we need to make sure that they are heard and they are believed and that they are still valuable.
