Stage West Calgary - Suite Surrender
Stage West Calgary – Suite Surrender
A Farce By Michael McKeever
Show runs up until April 17, 2016
Synopsis: It’s 1942 and two of Hollywood’s biggest divas have descended upon luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel, assistants, luggage and a legendary feud with one another in tow. Everything seems to be in order for their wartime performance…that is, until they are somehow assigned to the same suite. Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double-entendres and a lap dog name Mr. Boodles round out this hilarious riot of a love note to the classic fares of the 30s and 40s.
Fans of Fawlty Towers will love this farcical production. The set is 1942 within the most luxurious room in Palm Beach Royale Hotel occupied by two feuding Hollywood divas Athena Sinclair and Claudia McFadden who have big egos and a lot of funny encounters…or not!
Manager Bernard S. Dunlap who is not unlike Basil Fawlty, runs around with exasperated antics…no Manuel but the bellhop Otis makes up for the famous “I know nothing” quote for the “I’m not here” quote.
Lovers lost and reunite, over the top big personalities including Mrs. Everett P. Osgood who seems to have a bit of a fancy for the sailors and a reporter that’s like a dog with a bone…talking of dogs. Puppy Love for Mr Boodles…a real live, well behaved I might add…wee dog. I couldn’t stop watching that wee white fluff ball…he/she looked just like a wee lamb being carried around.
This is a really funny show not to be missed with some adult tongue in cheek humour and antics. Biggest laugh of the night was Mr. Pippet and Mr Dunlap’s tussle with each other over a bunch of red roses...wont spoil this but hilarious.
Overall a great show that won’t disappoint, I’d give it 5 out of 5 for good humour and acting. Made me laugh out loud and did I mention the food? Oh gee, go with stretch pants.
Suite Surrender runs up until April 17.
